X is living in Ahmedabad. who travels to goa and met with an accident in goa. which police station jurisdiction will lodge FIR ?

Posted on by Admin

[icon name=”check” prefix=”fas”]Question :- X is living in Ahmedabad. who travels the goa and met with an accident in goa. which police station jurisdiction will lodge FIR ?

Answer :-

X lives in Ahmedabad

Travels to Goa

Accident occurs in Goa

✅ Correct jurisdiction

👉 The FIR should be lodged at the police station in Goa that has territorial jurisdiction over the place where the accident occurred.

This is because, under Section 154 read with Section 177 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), an offence is ordinarily investigated and tried where it is committed.

⭐ Important practical point: Zero FIR

X can lodge a Zero FIR at any police station, including in Ahmedabad

That police station must register it and then transfer it to the concerned Goa police station

So legally:

Proper jurisdiction: Goa police station (place of accident)

Permissible option: Zero FIR anywhere in India → later transferred to Goa

🚗 If it’s a road accident

This applies whether the case is under:

IPC sections (rash/negligent driving, hurt, death, etc.), or

Motor Vehicles Act provisions

Bottom line:
✔️ Goa police station has jurisdiction
✔️ Zero FIR can be filed in Ahmedabad if neede
